Friday Night Review

Posted on June 23rd, 2008 in Fun House by dinop5

Hey all….here`s my review of the 29th Year FunHouse Reunion….before I start, I would like to thank Scottie Juice for putting this all together….now indulge me while I play critic…first the music…..music was great….they really covered just about every song I wanted to hear, although some of them were cut out too quickly….Kraftwerk for one, and WTF!!…how do you cut out Give It Up, Turn It Loose before the break at the end???…..but the three DJ`s worked well together…..next the people….alot of new faces, which was nice….but alot of regulars missing…PattyBoy, Mark Apollo, Frankie Blue, Ellen 65, Jimmy, Do-It to name a few….a couple of fellow Canarsiens showed up that I haven`t seen in twenty years!…always a good thing…great to see everyone that did show…one great big family!….next to the drinks/food….$12 for a f**kin` Kamikaze!!!….that was absolutely absurd!…I saw people cashing their kid`s savings bonds to pay for a round of drinks!…lol….what happened to “drink specials”?….I guess they feel “special” charging you so much for drinks!…food….didn`t even bother!…looked like crap, didn`t want to eat anything that would make me more thirsty, because I didn`t want to go for another $100 in drinks….next, the Staff….bartenders and dancers were nice eye candy, but what was up with the guys serving food and handling the VIP area?…..I never met a bunch of dumber f**ks in my life….Pegalon missing her bag full of shoes and sneakers, and they are all looking at each other with this dumb ass stare!!….I say later for Grand Palace, just my opinion….the parties we have where you pay one price for food and open bar are the way to go….they obviously had a captive audience Friday night and raped us of all our cash!!…..keep on dancing all…`til next time….DP

Hey Dino I agree with you in the whole that this place is not the right type of place for our gatherings. This will be the last one done here. I heard quite a few complaints about the drink prices. What gets me is that Joe was charged for the bar and then they overcharged our guests? Not cool. Food? I didnt even see a reason for it not to mention Joe was charged for that too. The house sound system that we hooked the DJ equipment too? It was good stuff a 4 way system driven by 4 Crown Macros into 4 full range EAW’s and 4 subs however there was some shortcomings with the full range speakers that required some tweeking in the system to cover up what they were lacking. Eventually we got it to be as good as it could but with that system in good working order should have been killer!
3 Djs sharing a night together required planning and communcication between us all. In reality 7 hours sounds like a long time but yes there could of been more songs if time would of allowed. So planning, communication and some cases sacrificess helped to get as much as we can in the time we had. For the most part alot of songs were played in their entirety. Some cases like you had metniond about give it up turn it loose Joey Ghost actually started that song from the break at the end and even extended it longer than it would be usually then played the song fromn the begining from there and mixing it out berfore the break would of played again.
Joey Ghost, Mike and myself spent many hours talking together over the phone planning what should be played and who plays what. (The last thing we had time for is a song getting played twice which didnt happen).
We each had 1, 20 min set each between 9-10 then 2, 1 hour sets each for the rest of the night. Making sure that a set doesnt go over causing a time crunch. This didnt happen everything went very smoothly and each one of us did get to play everything we planned to cover. Yes it would be nice if there wasnt a time factor, a night at the Funhouse gave a 12 hour timeframe to play, now we are trying to get that into a 7 hour timeframe. That pretty much sums it up as far as the music goes.

    Hey Everybody

Is everyone slathering on the Ben Gay? LOL - let me tell you i was hurtin all day Saturday. I haven’t danced that much since I was 15 and gettin into the Funhouse with my fake ID from the Ave I flea Market! LOL - It was nice to see that some of the Veterans made it, but whats up with some of the best songs not being played? Like - The Mexican, The Bubble Bunch, Romeo and Juliet, Jingo, Get Wet, Beat the Clock, Confusion, Set it Off? My husband and I both had a great time and I felt like it was 1983 again. I dug out my orignial cut off
Fun House shirt and wore it proudly all night! I loved it. I look forward to the next one!

Well now I will say my piece. Dino, You are a true Stand Up guy. Not many around, that’s why you are a star. Yes, what Dino wrote was 100% true. I had my sneakers and shoes taken out of the VIP area. The same area where the two guests I brought spent close to $1000. Yep. The managers were something out a cartoon , the ones that got hit on the head with a brick.

What gets me is why are we still having parties at this place. The staff SUCKS. SUCKS. They are rude, and completely in the dark about how to run a catering hall. They didn’t have Ketel One Vodka ( even though we were asked what we prefer and I wrote that). Finally they ran somewhere to get it for me in the VIP area. I had to tell the manager over and over to replenish the sodas, ices and bring a platter of food. After all, alot of money was spent.

The ladies room was FILTHY. And there was an attendant there - doing nothing. I mean nothing.

I love seeing my regular crew. I really do. But, I will look to see them elsewhere from now on.

Also, I think for $25 - 30 entrance fee, a drink ticket should have been given out.

WE are what keeps the Funhouse memories alive.

Actually they did play The Mexican and Beat the Clock Kitty…you probably missed them…I think they were played early…like Dynasty said…it is hard to get every song in within the timeframe of the party…I think all 3 DJ’s were awesome…you have a very diverse crowd there and everyone has their favorites…not to beat a dead horse, but let’s do our due diligence and find a place that will give us open bar, food and a congenial staff that appreciates our business…please, no more freakin’ Russian places…no offense to any Buggas that might be Russian….but they run a hall like they run their country!!…I am surprised they didn’t make us wait in line for toilet paper and make us pay for it as well!!….DP

Oh i got there around 10:30 so I probably did miss them - oops :-) - other than that aside from the $5.00 hot dogs and $12.00 drinks I definetely did go down memory lane and boy was it fun :-)

Dino - you own the blog, so you can edit it out later. Or Scott can.

  8. 8     Ellen Says:

Dino, baby!! You always tell them like it is!!! That is what I enjoy so much about you…you are so like me, except you are liked and popular, and I am, well, that is another story for another blog!! LOLOL No one might have noticed, but after MY DJ’S gave me a shout out at 12:00 a.m., I boogied from the reunion about 1:00 a.m.. Truth be told, I should have stayed and supported the talent that I brought together for that night. (Head down in shame..hahah), but I too was DISGUSTED WITH WHAT WAS GOING ON IN THAT FREAKING RUSSIAN CLUB, ( if there are any Russian Bugga’s this is no reflection on you, please know that) I did not find the dancers amusing, as truth of the matter is if we were forewarned about their little “show”,( I and many people agreed with me on this), those small stages should have been used to HIGHLIGHT “OUR” DANCERS! Bugga’s could have taken turns up there to show off their “game”. Thank God I am not a drinker, and I was supplied with water for free the whole night, BUT, I HAD TO DROP THE BARTENDRESS $25.00 FOR TAKING CARE OF THE TALENT. AND TO BOOT, THE WATER SHE GAVE ME TO GIVE THEM WAS PISS HOT, AS SHE COULD NOT GIVE ME A CUP WITH ICE AS HER BOSS ( THE OWNERS) HAD THE CUPS COUNTED AND WOULD NOT SUPPLY ME WITH COLD WATER FOR THE DJ’S!! Sorry, I wasn’t shouting, I was venting. LOL As for that disgusting looking, over priced food, my dog eats better. Thank God, I brought Pizza in with me for the DJ’s if they were hungry, and I had a slice myself. UGH, just thinking back on it turns my stomach! I felt so bad for Joe the whole night. He was getting it up the waazzoo all night from these Bast~rds, and there wasn’t a darn thing he could do! Believe me, he did the best a human being could possibly do. Overall though, the music was slam banging!!!!!!!! My special thanks to Mike( great job as always), Steve aka DJ DYNASTY, and my personal Main Man, Joey aka GHOST for giving us a place, THE DANCE FLOOR, to vent our fustration and DANCE OUR ASSES OFF!!! having a GREAT TIME despite all that was going on around us. I would have stayed and made the best of it, (again hung head, hahah) but, I had to be a children’s T.V. character and assistant for a very, very, very, ( get the hint LOL) good friend the next day. KATHI

  9. 9     Ellen Says:

Kathi, I started to talk to you in my blog and I pushed the submit button instead, ooppps, upside my head…..LOL I did not know ( having left early) that your bag had been taken ( stolen??) and all your shoes are gone. I can’t belive this. Such utter IDIOCYon the part of the THEIF!! What kind of IDIOT would do that? In the FH of old, you could leave your money, house keys, anything in your bag, in your hang out area, and NO ONE would dream of touching it, and there were literally thousands of people in that room. Here we had a small contained crowd. What kind of MORON would do this? I am stressing over and over that this person is a MORON, and a IDIOT, as maybe they cruise the blogs, or actually blog, and I want them to feel like the IDIOT they must be. This is an outright theft. If it had been a mistake, you would have received it back by now. I am so sorry this happened to you, or would have happened to anyone for that matter. What are the reunions coming to, if this nonsensical theft happens? I mean, not to negate what was stolen, but it isn’t like they grabbed your wallet and left. What could some MORON do with your shoes and sneakers??? I also know what kind of dancing shoes you wear, and they are expensive “real” dancing shoes. I know it is not monetary that you are bothered by, but the fact that it was done at all. We cannot allow this to happen at OUR reunions. Again, I am so sorry to hear of it. I belive that we have to demand coat room service at the next party or reunion, so that items can be checked and this awful thing cannot happen to you or anyone else, including myself. It should be part of the agreements made with a hall or club. This could have happened to any of us, as true “Bugga’s” always have a change of “something” with them. Luv you and miss you, Peace Out, Ellen. There I vented again, good for the mind and soul……
