UNBELIEVABLE

Posted on November 13th, 2006 in Dance Floor & Clown by run666

I DONT BELIEVE I FOUND A SITE LIKE THIS.  I USED TO GO IN SEARCH ENGINES LOOKING FOR ANYTHING LIKE PICTURES, MERCHANDISE, ETC OF THE HOUSE.

THE FAMOUS HOUSE,  UMM  LET ME SEE………………………

ONE SATURDAY NIGHT A FRIEND SAID , YOU WANNA GO TO THE FUNHOUSE.   I SAID, WHAT EXACTLY IS IT.  HE TOLD ME HAVENT YOU BEEN SEEING EVERYBODY WITH THE CLOWN SHIRTS ON.  I SAID YEAH, IN SCHOOL, NEIGHBORHOOD ALL OVER.  HE SAID MEET ME TONITE AT 10PM, WE WILL GO COP SOME DUST AND TAKE THE D TRAIN TO THE HOUSE.  HE SAID YOU HAVE TO HEAR JELLYBEAN . (THIS WAS THE TIME WHEN RICK JAMES JUST RELEASED SUPERFREAK).

I MET MY FRIEND AND WENT.  THE LINE WAS UN REAL.  IT WAS REALLY MY FIRST CLUB IVE BEEN TO BESIDES MAYBE BROOKLYN ZOO IN SHEEPSHEAD BAY.

MAN , I WALKED IN THROUGH THE MAZE AND CIRCUS LIKE MIRRORS ON DUST AND I WAS BUGGIN.  THE MUSIC WAS SO POWERFULL AND CLEAR(MAYBE IT WAS THE ZAMBOLA) BUT I DONT THINK SO.  FUNHOUSE HAD A GREAT SYSTEM.

IT HELPED HAVING AN ERA LIKE THAT OF ALL THE GREAT MUSIC THEN,

A.E.I.O.U., PLANET ROCK, SITUATION, WALKIN ON SUN, CONFUSION, CRASH GOES  LOVE, ONE MORE SHOT, MEXICAN, MAKOSSA, YOU ALL KNOW THE REST(IF YOU WERE IN THERE).    I USE TO HANG OUT ALL OVER REALLY BUT MAINLY DOWNSTAIRS NEAR THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE.  I WASNT MUCH OF A DANCER BUT JUST DID THE BUG(MEANING BOPPING MY HEAD AND WHATEVER……)  I COULDNT GET ENOUGH OF IT.

TO BE HONEST I WAS ABOUT 15 AND HAD TO BE HOME BY 2AM.     I WAS LIKE F..K THAT SH..T.   ILL DEAL WITH THAT SH..T TOMMOROW.   MY PARENTS DIDNT UNDERSTAND HOW A CLUB CAN BE OPEN TILL 830AM OR SO THAT HOUSED MOSTLY 15-25 YEAR OLDS AT THE TIME.  DIDNT MATTER THOUGH, EVERY SATURDAY I WAS THERE AGAIN, AND SOMETIMES FRIDAYS WITH CHUCK CHILLOUT AND RED ALERT DEE JAYING.    IVE SEEN A LOT OF COOL ACTS IN THE HOUSE, BUT TO BE HONEST,  I ENJOYED JELLYBEAN DEE JAYING INSTEAD.  THE WAY HE MIXED CERTAIN TRACKS WAS SO BUGGED OUT TO THE HUMAN EAR.

STONE FOX CHASE, HILLS OF KATMANDU, ETC…………..   FOR EXAMPLE THE TOP DJ NOW I GUESS IS FUNKMASTER FLEX.  HE DOES THESE SPINBACKS OUT OF NO WHERE AND CUTS LIKE 80 PERCENT OF THE SONG OUT.   WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SH..T.

JELLYBEAN USED TO DO MOSTLY BLENDING AT THE RIGHT TIME AS WELL.  AND WE HEARD THE SONG ALMOST ALL THE WAY THROUGH, AND A LOT WERE EXTENDED VERSIONS.  I FEEL SORRY FOR THE YOUNGER CATS NOW GOIN TO THE CLUBS WITH THOSE TYPE DEE JAYS AND THE GARBAGE MUSIC OUT NOW.   THE HIP HOP SUCKS NOW, AND I USED TO LOVE IT BACK IN THE DAY.  RUN DMC AND ALL THOSE CATS.

ANYWAY  KEEP THIS SITE GOIN, AND PEACE,LOVE,UNITY AND HAVE FUN TO ALL THE HOUSE BUGGAS OUT THERE…………………………

REMEMBER, WALIKING OUT OF THE HOUSE ON MESCALINE AND TRIPPING ON THE SPARKLE CONCRETE ON THE FLOOR OUTSIDE…………………………….

BY THE WAY IM CLEAN NOW FOR 12 YEARS………………………………..

Well all I have to say is Funhouse was a way of life for me & all my “Bugger” buddies!! We molded Jellybean into the DJ he became. Myself & Joey Do-it were brought into the booth by the owners to “coach” him on what he should play. At the time he wasn’t 100% sure on what he should be playing but in time he took to us & the rest is history. I began going to Funhouse in 1979/80. Jonathan Fearing (may God rest his soul) was the DJ. One of the best DJs I ever heard! I remember going with my buddy Howie & few others to Jonathan’s apartment in Chelsea & being in total awe!! He had this 1 or 2 bedroom apartment with over 15,000 records in it!! Stacks of records everywhere!!! I will never forget that as he played us his remix of “The Break” off his reel-to-reel!! Yes that’s right, reel to reel, before it was released on vinyl!!! I could go on but I might be here a few hours but I’ll be back with more. Long live the “Buggers”!!!

    Mark from Brooklyn.

I use to have 2 copies of this track thats so rare and i consider it the cream of the crop of old skool hip hop. Jellybean of course introducted it to us and rocked it with songs like Automan. It was and still called “It’s your rock” By Fantasy 3. I had to go to this little record store in the Bronx because no other store in the 5 boro’s had it. Those were the days… Traveling so far just to get 1 record and now everything is a click away lol

I still got my copies of that track Lee. “It’s Your Rock”… Loved it… And, I know the feeling… tryin to find it… It was nearly impossible… I think I got mine at this store I would go to on 8th Avenue somewhere around 38th street when I was comin home from Groton, CT for the weekend.

I remember you Mark. I’ve seen some other familiar faces and
names as I look through this website. I used to be best friends
with Darlene aka Darla. We started out going to the funhouse together.

I only went there from 1979-81/82? Do you ever talk to Joey (do-it) Howie,
or Anne? I saw Joey and Anne at a mutual friends wedding many years ago.

Peace and Friendship…..Nancy (brooklyn now NJ).
